Moisturizers help to protect the moisture of the skin and form a smooth layer. So lesser the loss, lesser the dry skin. Moisturize daily after baths or after doing chores because all the washings with harsh detergents take out the oil from the skin and make it dry and rough.

Essential Oils have more staying power than moisturizers and prevent the evaporation of water from the skin. Yes, it might be a bit sticky, but it is more effective. It is advisable to use baby oils since they have fewer chemicals and less greasy. Smear oil on the required body parts before bathing. It forms a layer over the skin and seals the hydration. You can also use it after bathing if you don’t prefer moisturizers. Recommended are Johnson’s Baby Oil, Jac Olive Oil, etc. You might be surprised that sunflower oil or ghee can also help heal dry skins, and is popularly recommended by the elders of the family.
Use Petroleum Jelly Or Glycerine
Just like the above materials, petroleum jelly or glycerine helps to heal dry skin. They are gentle and soothes the dryness, keeping it hydrated. Plus point, it helps to get rid of itchy skin as well. Glycerine helps to retain the moisture as well as soaks the moisture from the air and is useful in every season. Recommended is Vaseline petroleum jelly, Khadi Omorose Glycerine.
Just like moisturizers, lotions to help protect the skin. Lotions have hydrating elements and smoothen and soften the skin. Unlike the moisturizers, lotions have higher water content and thus bring back the lost moisture to the skin. It is of lighter weight and non-greasy. Lotions get mixed with the skin easily. Indian markets have got a wide variety of lotions such as Nivea Smooth Milk Body Lotion, Dove Go Fresh Body Lotion, Vaseline Cocoa Body Lotion, etc.
Smear Coconut Oil
Not only is coconut oil beneficial for hair but also the skin as well (and of course other than in recipes). It is obtained from raw coconuts and has fewer chemicals. It contains fatty acids that prevent the pores lose all the moisture. Go for the virgin pressed coconut oils such as Organic India Virgin Coconut Oil, Max Care Cold Pressed Virgin Coconut Oil. And if you don’t get hold of the virgin ones, go for the more available branded coconut oils such as Parachute 100% Pure Coconut Oil.
Aloe Vera Gel
Another important cure for the dry skin is aloe vera gel. It contains cooling elements that help to reduce irritation and itchiness and retains moisture. It is also beneficial for sensitive skin. Use it in small amounts, excessive use might lead to the opposite. Hang the aloe vera stem overnight, keeping the open-side upside down so that the yellow juice gets out of the gel. Scoop out the gel and apply it on your skin.
